This spring, Victoria Mansion is taking a great step forward in improving the care of our collections and the comfort of our visitors. Contractors are now hard at work in the basement putting the finishing touches on an air handling system. This system is at once state-of-the-art and low-tech. It will monitor the temperature and humidity in the house and deliver humidified or dehumidified air to the Mansion’s interiors, leveling out drastic seasonal swings. Mansion architect Henry Austin did us a huge favor when he integrated duct-work into the Mansion’s walls for the original heating system. When these ducts come alive this summer for the first time in a hundred years, visitors and furniture alike will breathe a sigh of relief.
