Although the Mansion is currently closed to the public, lots of projects are still taking place. Through the winter, our partners from Gianfranco Pocobene Studio have been busy cleaning and restoring the decoratively painted walls of the Stair Hall.
Some of the original painting was completed on separate canvases and then attached to the walls. These were recently taken down to be cleaned separately in the studio. Today, Gianfranco Pocobene and Corrine Long reattached two of these canvases above the stairs to the second floor. The rest will be returning as their surfaces have been cleaned and conserved.
Images:
1. A white frame painted on a wall with an empty spot in the center.
2. Corinne Long and Gianfranco Pocobene reattach one of the painted canvas panels.
3. Corrine irons over the canvas to dry the glue.
4. Before and after images of a restored painted panel. There is a young lady in a long pink dress fishing. Behind her another girl is in a tree and there is also young couple kissing. The restored painting shows more details and more vivid colors.
