Celebrating Irish-American Heritage Month

During Irish-American Heritage Month, we think of the many Irish immigrants who are part of the story at Victoria Mansion.
While we do not know the names of all the people who worked for the Morse and Libby families as domestic servants, many of the ones that we have identified were Irish.
Lena Deasy Morrill was a native of Kinsale, County Cork, Ireland. She, along with her husband and three children, lived in service quarters of the Mansion from 1937-1956. They took care of the house after the Libby family had moved out, as well as during the early years of the building’s time as a museum.
We are grateful to the Morrill family for their stewardship of the Mansion through these transition years, including when the skylight broke during the 1938 hurricane.
