The course will take place at Victoria Mansion in Portland, Maine, and will include both classroom instruction and hands-on practice. Workshop space, as well as wooden elements for students to practice on, will be provided. Both the instructor and students will be expected to bring their own tools.
Requirements for the position of instructor include:
- Ten or more years of experience in professional, hands-on practice of preservation woodworking;
- Prior experience teaching preservation trades skills in a classroom or public workshop environment;
- In-depth understanding of the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties and ability to relate its key principles – including the value of preservation and repair over replacement – to the lessons taught during the workshop.
