We are pleased to partner with the Lippitt House Museum in Providence, RI for this joint virtual program!
Join this illustrated talk discussing how Providence’s Henry Lippitt and Portland’s Ruggles Morse used the design of their homes to shape their public image. Lippitt House Museum Director Carrie Taylor and Victoria Mansion Director of Education & Public Programs Stacia Hanscom will explore details of both sites and the meanings behind them.
Even though both Victorian-era mansions have strikingly similar interiors and exteriors, the successful businessmen had very different origin stories. Why did men with such dissimilar backgrounds end up building such similar houses? What messages were they sending through the design of their homes? Time will be allocated for audience questions.
